We have an update on the cookout for the MCI retirees.
Please take a moment to check out the letter we will be mailing and emailing our members

Dear Fellow Retiree,
Marion Correctional Institution
has invited the retirees to a cookout, to be held off-site later this month,
and which includes spouses and significant others. Scheduled for Wednesday, July 22nd
from 4-7pm, it will be held at the FOP Park outside of Caledonia. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be provided,
along with plates, napkins, and forks.
There is no cost involved to attend, only that you bring a covered dish
and your own beverages. The dress code
is casual – after all, this is a summer picnic held in a park. If you are able to make it, just let Kathy
Hamilton know at 740-382-5781, extension 2210, by July 21st. A copy of the poster is included as an
attachment.
The reasons behind this
cookout focus on Warden Bunting’s desire to recognize and preserve MCI’s
history. Many of you have already
obtained or viewed copies of MCI’s 60th
Anniversary book and DVD produced by PNN. It has considerable information about the
creation and early years of the institution.
Each of us knows or has
heard stories that add context to events from MCI’s past. This cookout provides an opportunity to share
and preserve our stories and observations with MCI’s current leadership. From the numerous luncheons and informal
meetings over the years, it is obvious the stories are out there. Warden Bunting wants to preserve those
moments and memories before the opportunity slips away. Think of it this way, how many of us have
said either during or after our employment,
“No one ever asked me, but if they did I’d
tell them …”.
This is your chance.
MCI will have video
equipment available to document your thoughts and impressions of your time
working at MCI. After we eat, we’d like
you to consider sharing your stories. Kathy
Hamilton and John Mathew will coordinate the recording sessions. Below is a list of suggested topics, but you
might have others important to you – not a problem!
For those who can’t attend
the cookout but would like to participate, just let Kathy Hamilton know at the
above number. She can schedule a session
in PNN for the next retiree’s lunch, August 5th, or another day and
time that is convenient.
We’ll see you on the 22nd!
