PETE PERINI

Pete Perini, past Superintendent of the Marion Correctional Institution, passed away on September 11, 2008, at the age of 80. Pete was born on February 10, 1928. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. I knew him as my boss, mentor and friend.

He was a graduate of the Ohio State University and served in the Army in Korea. A wrestling champion in high school, he went on to excel in baseball and football at Ohio State. He is member of the OSU Sports Hall of Fame. He played baseball for the Boston Braves and football for the Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears. After his professional sports career, he worked at the Ohio Penitentiary. After demonstrating his management skills in the recreation department, he moved to other jobs within the correctional community. His last assignment was that of Superintendent at the Marion Correctional Institution.

Those of you who worked for Pete know that his sports experience was the basis of his management style. He was a team builder. Pete was a man who worked hard and succeeded in everything he attempted. He cared about his employees and genuinely enjoyed working with them. I learned something new every single day that I worked with Pete.

I will miss him.
