Summer is here!

How can you tell?  Torrential rains were followed by historic floods, which have been followed by oppressive heat and gigantic mosquitoes.  But that’s OK – we waited all winter for this, so we plan to enjoy it.

Aramark Announcement:
Yesterday we received an email from Marion Correctional regarding Aramark Correctional Services.  If you’ve been reading the news, Aramark has been awarded the contract to provide food services to DRC facilities, starting in September 2013.  They are in the process of recruiting staff members, and are scheduled to host a series of job fairs.

Two of the job fairs will be held locally, both at Job and Family Services/Opportunity Marion, 940 Marion-Williamsport Road, Marion, OH.  These will be on Wednesday, July 24 from 10am to 7pm, and on Thursday, July 25 from 9am to 4pm.

According to the notice, Aramark will be “hiring for Hourly Supervisors, Cook Supervisors, Food Service Managers, and Directors and General Managers”.  Both full-time and part-time positions are available.

If you are interested in receiving a copy of the announcement, which includes the other job fair locations, email John Mathew at copta2003@yahoo.com.

Other news:
During the past several months there has been an increase in the number of retirees taking advantage of the free lunches at the Wander Inn.  For those who have not yet taken advantage of this offer, all that is needed is to call the Warden’s Office no later than the working day before, to have your name added to the gate pass (740-382-5781, extension #2210).  On your initial visit they will prepare an MCI Retiree badge for you, eliminating the need for gate passes for future “free lunch” days.  The lunches are offered the first Wednesday of each month from 10:30 until the Wander Inn closes, around noon.  If you find a better deal than this one, let us know.

Marion Correctional is already working on their 60th Anniversary observance in 2014.  Many of us have old photos or mementos tucked away in drawers, closets, or boxes.  Any that might be considered historical in nature would be of interest to them.  If you would consider loaning them for a while, PNN will scan the images and return the originals.  Those who were present for the 50th Anniversary observance received a DVD containing the images and videos used during the ceremony.  A similar plan is in place for this event.  As the date and details are worked out we will post further information.

For those who haven’t yet marked your calendars, we will be meeting at Ryan’s in Marion at noon on Tuesday, September 3rd.

See you then!
